God Has A Plan For Your Life

"God has a plan for your life." This is a phrase that is used to encourage the struggling disciple that better days are ahead. It is said to the student who is trying to figure out what career path to choose. It is said to the young man or woman who is searching for a spouse. I have no problem with the statement. However, I wonder if this phrase leads a person to believe that God's plan is some cryptic message that we have to figure out over time? Oh, don't misunderstand me. I believe God has a plan for your life. I just don't believe it's a mystery.  God's plan for your life is revealed through the Bible. By reading the word of God, we discover what God's plan is for you and me:

God's plan for your life is to:

  • Flee From Sin

"Flee youthful passions" (2 Timothy 2:22).

  • Be Sanctified

"For this is the will of God, your sanctification" (1 Thessalonians 4:3)

  • Live A Holy Life

"You shall be holy for I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16).

  • Forgive Others

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:32).

  • Love God

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37).

  • Love Others

"You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:39)

  • Grow in the Knowledge of the Truth

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 3:18).

  • Share the Gospel

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19)

I could go on and list verse after verse that reveals what God's plan is for your life but I encourage you to try this: Live God's plan for your life TODAY. It is our human nature to want to know what our lives will look like in the future. We want to see the entire map of where we are headed. But we need to leave that to God. We need to focus on living God's plan right now. Live God's plan in the present and God will take care of the future. Our job is to simply focus on one day at a time. Jesus said it like this, "Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble" (Matthew 6:34). God does have a plan your life. It's revealed in the Bible. Focus on what God wants you to do TODAY.
